Painter Nabil El Makhloufi exhibits his recent works, from June 11 to July 31, 2013 in Casablanca.

The city where Nabil El Makhloufi lives and works, Leipzig, is renowned for its Neue Leipziger Schule school of figurative painting, famous throughout Europe. The works of a Leipzig painter, such as Neo Rauch, are the pride of many contemporary art museums. Nabil El Makhloufi's paintings are in the tradition of figuration that distinguishes Leipzig's painters. An enigmatic figuration that reserves a large part for narration without, however, revealing all that it says. Nabil El Makhloufi's paintings are characterized by a blend of realism and surrealism, while leaving certain parts of the canvas free of elements from the outside world, which can lead to abstraction. The artist is interested in the fundamental problems of modern painting, the relationship between surface and spatial illusion, between abstraction and figuration.
