Derrick Ofosu Boateng was born in 1998 in Accra, Ghana.
A self-taught photographer, he has developed a practice based on the concept of Hueism, a personal approach combining colour therapy and visual composition. His photographs, taken with an iPhone and digitally retouched, are characterised by intense chromatic palettes — red or green skies, ochre grounds and sharply defined horizons — in which colour structures and delineates space as much as it determines atmosphere.
Poetry and proverbs from Ashanti culture play a central role in his creative process. Each colour and accessory contributes to a staged composition illustrating an ancestral saying or proverb, anchoring his work within a specific cultural heritage.
His works have been exhibited in London, Basel, Paris, Miami, Amsterdam and Brussels. They are held in several public and private collections, including the Museum Voorlinden Bons-Enfants (Netherlands), La Boverie Museum (Belgium), the Yinka Shonibare Foundation (United Kingdom), the KOKO Art Collection (United Kingdom) and the Nubuke Foundation (Ghana).
Derrick Ofosu Boateng lives and works in Accra.
