Hassan Darsi was born in 1961 in Casablanca.

A graduate of the École supérieure des arts visuels in Mons, Belgium, he returned to Casablanca in 1989.

In 1995, he founded the project La Source du lion, an artistic platform dedicated to participatory projects and cross-disciplinary practices, with which his personal work maintains close ties.

His practice is multidisciplinary, encompassing photography, installation, sculpture, performance, video, models and interventions in public space. From 1999 onwards, he developed a series of works based on gilding, covering everyday objects — dolls, garden chairs, televisions, tanks, teeth — as well as public spaces, including the façade of an art gallery in Casablanca in 2008, using gold adhesive film.

His work is rooted in specific political, social and cultural contexts, and frequently mobilises other disciplines, including dance, poetry and architecture.

His works are held in several public and private collections, including the Centre Pompidou – Musée national d’art moderne (France), the Zorlu Center (Turkey) and the FRAC Champagne-Ardenne (France).

Hassan Darsi lives and works in Casablanca.
