Khalid El Bekay

Khalid El Bekay was born in Casablanca in 1966.

After graduating from the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan in 1990, he moved to Barcelona, where he earned a degree in Fine Arts, specialising in printmaking, in 1995. In the Catalan capital, he established himself as one of the most talented painters of his generation from the southern shores of the Mediterranean. His exhibitions receive extensive coverage in Spanish art magazines, and he is represented by a gallery in Milan.

His installations and paintings, featuring simple forms such as pears, apples and coffee cups, possess a distinctive character that defines his art. Marked by vivid colours, his paintings explore a dialogue between life and decomposition. He has developed a personal collage technique centred on volume. Entitled “Le T du Thé”, this exhibition further roots Khalid El Bekay’s painting in the Moroccan sociocultural context.

Khalid El Bekay lives and works in Barcelona.
