Meki Megara

Meki Megara was born in Tetouan on 2 March 1933.

 

From childhood, he showed a keen interest in the arts, particularly painting, holding his first exhibition at the age of sixteen. His artistic training began in 1952 at the School of Fine Arts in Tetouan. He continued his studies at the Santa Isabel de Hungría School in Seville, followed by the San Fernando School in Madrid. In 1960, he returned to Morocco and joined the School of Fine Arts in Tetouan as a painting professor, teaching in particular the principles of perspective. He retired in 1992 to devote himself entirely to his artistic practice.

 

In 2007, he was appointed a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Cádiz.

 

He was also a founding member of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tetouan.

 

Meki Megara passed away on 11 November 2009.
