Graduate of the Institut des Beaux-arts de Tétouan in 2008, Saïd Afifi's work focuses on natural landscapes, biomimicry and the impact of new technologies on our observation of the world. Gifted in both drawing and painting, with meticulous attention to detail, Saïd Afifi produces works that stand out in the Moroccan art scene.
In the text of the exhibition catalog, art writer Olivier Rachet writes that “lately, Afifi has become fascinated by Google Earth software, which provides a view of the Earth from aerial or satellite photographs. Our perception of the landscape has changed considerably as a result”. He adds: “In his studio, various satellite shots are printed out beforehand, from which the artist will sometimes intervene directly. But more often than not, drawing, and for the first time in his career, painting, are used to relay these fascinating images, which are transforming the genre of landscape painting as we used to define it in art history”.
