The artists were invited to address a pressing issue: the determination to reach the northern shores of the Mediterranean, whatever the cost. They were asked to explore the circumstances of those who undertake this journey, both as they await the right moment to leave and during the crossing itself. Each artist approached this urgent reality through their own sensibility and medium, bringing a personal perspective to the experiences of people who risk their lives in the hope of reaching a better world. Their tragedies, disappointments and successes are the focus of this group exhibition.
This theme challenges the artists and resonates deeply with them, as demonstrated by the richness and diversity of the works created by the nineteen participants in “Partir”. Powerful in their visual expression, these works show that artists do not live in an ivory tower. Through their respective artistic languages, they respond to the tragedies that shake the world around them.
